EFFECTIVE Friday, June 4, the entire municipality of Baganga in Davao Oriental will be under general community quarantine (GCQ) due to the sudden spike of Covid-19 cases in the area.
The GCQ status will last for 14 days.
In a press statement, the Provincial Government said this was the decision of the municipal Covid-19 Task Force and it was approved by the Regional Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (RIATF) through Resolution 7 on June 4.
“Kini aron malikayan ang pagkuyanap sa Covid-19 gumikan sa maka-alarmang pagsaka sa mga kaso (This is to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 due to the alarming rise of cases),” the local government said.
According to the Provincial Task Force on Covid-19, Baganga registered 39 active cases and one death for the past five days.
According to the RIATF resolution, the municipal Task Force is mandated to strictly enforce minimum health protocols, intensified contact tracing, quarantine of close contact and isolation of confirmed cases, and if warranted, strictly imposed granular lockdown of critical areas within the Zoning Containment Strategy.
“Ilalom sa GCQ, ginalimitahan ang mga aktibidades labas sa panimalay. Ginabawalan usab ang pagsulod ug labas sa munisipyo gawas lamang ug emergency o kalabot sa mga aktibibdad batok sa Covid-19 (Under GCQ, all activities outside residence are strictly limited. Entry and exit within the municipality is also prohibited except for emergency and other activities related against Covid-19),” it said.
The Provincial Government also ordered the closure of Poo Sandbar, one of the famous tourist destinations in Baganga. Tourists are temporarily prohibited from visiting the site despite having advanced booking.
Meanwhile, the rest of Davao Oriental is still under MGCQ until June 30.
According to the Department of Health data as of June 3, the province has a total of 1,759 cases, with 204 active cases, 1,513 recoveries, and 42 deaths.
