AFTER being identified as one of the high-risk areas due to the number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, Baguio City is now listed at low-risk level.

Dr. Ruby Constantino, regional director of the Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), said Baguio City’s two-week growth rate was recorded at negative 24 percent, although the city remains high risk based on the daily attack rate.

Constantino added that combining these two indicators would however show that Baguio City is at a moderate to low risk.

“For the region’s epidemic level, Cordillera is now at a low-risk level with a negative 41 percent on two-week growth change and a daily attack rate of 5.32 per 100,000 population. We should not be complacent because breaking it down by provinces, Kalinga and Mountain Provinces are on moderate-risk level while Apayao, Baguio, Benguet and Ifugao are now on low-risk level while Abra on new normal level,” Constantino said.

As of February 9, the region has recorded more than 12,000 Covid-19 cases.

“Based on the latest statistics in the Cordillera Administrative Region, CAR has a total of 12,617 confirmed coronavirus cases with 757 still active. On the other hand, we now have a total of 11,680 or 93 percent recoveries, however 176 or 1.4 percent have died,” added Constantino.

Concentrating on the UK variant cases in the region, a total of 432 specimens were sent to the Philippine Genome Center, and 18 tested positive, 15 of which came from Mountain Province and three are from Benguet.

DOH-CAR said 17 of the UK variant cases were already tagged as recovered.

However, three from Mountain Province are still admitted in a quarantine facility and are awaiting the result of their second RT-PCR swab test.

Out of the 18 cases, one had died.

Baguio City, according to DOH-CAR, has yet to record a UK variant case.
