Seventeen persons from Negros Occidental, 12 of whom are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who recently returned to the province, have tested positive for COVID-19, the Department of Health reported yesterday.
Also on the list are a 45-year-old male from Silay City, who is facility quarantined, and a 34-year-old male from Talisay City, who is admitted at a hospital.
Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the Silay resident is a member of the city’s disaster team, who had no contact with returning LSIs. He will be retested to determine the accuracy of his test result, Diaz said.
Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares said the 34-year-old male from his city is a nurse, who assisted an LSI dialysis patient at a Bacolod hospital, who tested positive for COVID-19.
The nurse developed COVID-19 symptoms and is confined at a Bacolod hospital, he said.
The Talisay patient’s COVID-19 infection cannot be considered a local transmission since his exposure was with an LSI, Lizares said.
Meanwhile, the 12 LSIs and three OFWs who tested positive for COVID-19 are facility quarantined, the DOH said.
Of the 12 LSIs, three are from Sagay City, and one each from La Castellana, San Enrique, Calatrava, Talisay City, Hinoba-an, Himamaylan City, Binalbagan, Silay City, and Sipalay City.
The three COVID-19 positive OFWs are from Calatrava, Bago City and Pulupandan.*
