TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – As part of the celebration of the love month, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) region 2 has convened with the different Local Government Units (LGUs) to strengthen partnership.
Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo, said the cooperation of the City of Ilagan, and Aparri in fostering its mandate to champion both the consumers and local businesses were successful as they met the Price Coordinating Councils of different LGUs. “Complementary to this move was the full support of the Local Chief Executives of Aglipay and Saguday, Quirino in the implementation and establishment of the Consumer Welfare Assistance Center (CWAC) in their municipalities. This project was also presented to other municipalities in Quirino and is projected to be emulated in the region,” the director said.
Meanwhile, in Tuguegarao, the LGU adopted and enacted the Price Tag Ordinance which was drafted and proposed by DTI-Cagayan. Pulido said the ordinance mandates the placing of price tags on basic necessities, prime commodities, and all merchandise sold on retail within the city.
Similarly, the ordinance will be proposed to other cities and municipalities. Operations undertaken Through “Operation Timbangan”, DTI and its partner agencies confiscated 57 defective weighing scales and were turn-over to the LGUs.
DTI-Region 2 looks forward for more collaborative endeavors with the LGUs, line agencies, and private organizations in the region in advancing consumer protection, spreading awareness on consumerism and fair trade laws and regulations in place. TNF
