CEBU, Philippines — Over 270 Lapu-Lapu City residents, most of them were COVID-19 survivors and frontliners, donated blood so as to help public hospitals not run out of supply during the pandemic.
Among them were Mayor Junard Chan and Councilor Janvi Dela Serna, both were coronavirus survivors.
Chan said the need for more blood prompted the city government to organize the bloodletting drive.
“Ato ning gipahigayon kay nakita nato nga nanginahanglan og dugo ang atong kaigsuonan ug aron sila maluwas,” he said.
The blood donation drive was done Thursday in coordination with the Department of Health at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob.
Chan also asked the public and other COVID survivors to donate blood for other patients to recover.
“Nihangyo ko, nanawagan ko ngadto sa atong mga kaigsuonan sa pag-donate sa ilang dugo kay hurot-hurot na gyud ang dugo dinhi sa Sugbo. Karon panahon sa pandemya, magtinabangay ta sa pagluwas sa kinabuhi sa atong mga kaigsuonan,” he said.
The blood donation drive, Chan said, was also in preparation for the onset of illnesses associated with the rainy season, including dengue.
“With the onset of the rainy season, the rise of dengue fever cases is expected. So, this is part of our preparation,” he said. KQD (FREEMAN)
