GOVERNOR Melchor Diclas shared best practices of Benguet Province in battling Covid-19 in a live interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar.

The governor said the province continues to welcome locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning Overseas Filipino Workers (ROFWs), fetching them in Manila and other areas in the country.

Once the LSIs and ROFWs are in the province, they directly undergo triage center at the Benguet Training Center (BTC) in Wangal, La Trinidad that serves as a quarantine facility.

Diclas said necessary documents and quarantine are also needed for the LSIs and ROFWs and once they have negative results for Covid-19, they will be incorporated back to the community.

During the visit of World Health Organization officials led by Western Pacific Regional Director Dr. Takeshi Kasai and Acting WHO Representative to the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe in the province last week, the governor added one of the suggestions given by the group is for the province to add more quarantine facility.

Diclas added the province is preparing a second quarantine facility which will have a 40-bed capacity.

The governor, meanwhile, said the province is looking into those affected by the pandemic, particularly in the agriculture.

With Benguet now under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), he said delivery of vegetable and checkpoints in the province’ entry and exit will continue.

He added tourism activities in the province still not allowed.

The chief executive asked stakeholders to follow minimum health requirements in fighting Covid-19 such as cleaning of hands, strengthen resistance reminding the community to go outside their homes when accessing essential goods and services, for work in the offices or industries permitted to operate.

As of July 15, there are 308 LSIs who arrived in Benguet and already home, 96 still securing their medical certificates and travel pass and 11 currently admitted at the temporary provincial quarantine facility.

There are 27 ROFWs expected to arrive soon in the province while there are seven OFWs currently admitted at the provincial quarantine facility.
