A TOTAL of 343 workers were pulled out from the Manila-based construction company, 142 of whom have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, said Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

All of the extracted construction workers had been isolated in Cagayan de Oro City’s isolation units and were restricted from going home.

Moreno said those who tested positive for the virus were brought to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

City epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said they were able to contain the spread of the virus within the construction site.

Retuya also mentioned that all of the cases are mild.

Of the 142 coronavirus-positive construction workers, 92 are from Cagayan de Oro and 50 are non-Cagayan de Oro residents, including those who are from Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental.

“It’s a big number pero nadakpan nato, so dili na na mokaylap,” Moreno said.

“Imagine what it would have been kung ato na nang gipasagdan na katong mga workers namauli sa ilang balay and more than 300 of them, namauli sila sa ilang balay, bikil gyud kaayo,” he added.

Moreno said 84 construction workers tested negative for the virus and were confined to their bunkhouses, which were disinfected, at the construction site in Barangay 30.

He said they are expecting that the number of coronavirus-positive construction workers will increase, as there are still 117 workers whose test results have yet to be released.

“We expect more pero as there are more results, then that means nga na solve nato. Of course, ang risgo ani gisaka ang atong cases pero okay lang, ako dili ko kabalaka nga gisaka atong cases, ang importante is na-solve nato,” Moreno said.

He expressed gratitude to the City Health Office and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department for the quick response in isolating all the 343 construction workers.

He also encouraged the public to contact the City Health Office for any suspected cases of Covid-19.
