ILOILO – Mayor Rema Somo of Santa Barbara town, her husband and a son tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Since I am fully vaccinated upod ang akon bana, mild lang ang amon nabatyagan kag subong naka-home quarantine lang kami upod sa akon bata nga lalaki,” Somo said in a statement released on Sunday.
They started exhibiting symptoms last week,” Somo told Panay News.
They underwent antigen testing on Saturday.
“Una sia (husband) nga naka-symptoms tapos ako dayun, kag ulihi ang anak ko. Ang akon daw gin-ubo kag fever and palanakit akon kalawasan. Nagapanghatsing kag daw ubo lang akon bana pero two days lang kag kuha man dayun,” revealed Somo.
The family subsequently underwent swabbing.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some, however, could be asymptomatic.
Somo wasn’t sure where got the virus.
“Bilang public servant kag wala untat nga naga-atender sa mga kinahanglanon sang aton mga pumuloyo, indi gid malikawan nga ma-infect ako sa nature sang akon trabaho. Lately, gin-limit ko na ang akon mga exposure kag bisan ang akon mga paperwork ginadala ko na pauli sa balay kag didto ginatrabaho. Pulaw-bugtaw nga overtime work, apang indi gid malikawan ang infection,” said Somo.
Contact tracing was launched.
Somo reminded Santa Barbaranhons to always observe the minimum health standards – wear facemask and face shield, physical distancing, and proper washing of hands.
