A Palawan State University (PSU) professor has invented a spray-on disinfectant solution that is soon expected to be mass-produced under the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Called C-19, the solution is an invention of Dr. Arnie Estrobo, founder and chief of the Palawan Interdisciplinary Research and Development (PIRD) of PSU.

The product is currently under incubation at the Palawan International Technology Business Incubator (PITBI).

Estrobo and members of the PITBI and DOST formally inaugurated the product on June 22 at the PSU president’s office. Estrobo hopes that after mass manufacturing, he and his team will apply for a patent for the product.

Estrobo described C-19 as a water-based disinfectant comprised of water and peroxide and is unlike the common alcohol and chlorine-based disinfectants being used to combat COVID-19.

He said C-19’s water-based solution is safe on the skin and lungs. The solution may be sprayed on surfaces, clothing, and even bare skin, and prevents microbe growth within five to eight hours.

“This will be the first of its kind, I don’t know kung sa buong mundo.

Estrobo said the long wait for the hospital’s personal protective equipment (PPE) to finish disinfection inspired him to create a chemical that would provide fast and easy disinfection.

That inspired me.

The disinfectant is currently held in 100ml spray-on bottles. Estrobo explained that this is to make the disinfectant easy to carry, especially on aircraft, which restricts liquids to only be held in increments of 100ml.
