The provincial board has approved a measure seeking all seaports in Palawan to strictly implement health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Approved resolution author board member Juan Antonio Alvarez said Wednesday that aside from all seaports, shipping lines and other boat companies must also show how they are being transparent in performing their standard sets of rules against COVID-19 so it will not gain entry to the province from other harbors.

He said copies of their health and safety procedures must be submitted to the provincial board so it could help ensure if they are compliant with the policies issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

“This is timely including ‘yong mga boat companies, nandito sila [noong] nakaraan to explain their side. Also mag-submit din ng mga health protocols nila,” he said.

“Ito ay para ma-check lang natin kung nagco-comply ba sila sa mga health protocols. Lalo na dyan sa Norte dahil maraming island barangays and municipalities, maraming [puwedeng] dumaong kaya dapat ma-check talaga,” he said.

All local government units (LGU) concerned, he said, are also enjoined to formulate health protocols with the seaport management in their jurisdiction to ensure COVID-19 will not affect passengers.

“Gusto rin natin na maging kampante tayo kaya dapat nagco-comply sila,” Alvarez added.
