FIVE out of the 13 towns in Benguet Province remain Covid-19-free as of Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
During the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19 meeting on Wednesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Nora Ruiz reported 21 active cases out of the 31 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province.
Ruiz reported active Covid-19 positive cases are from the towns of Bakun, Bokod, Buguias, Itogon, La Trinidad, Mankayan, Tuba and Sablan.
Dr. Mercedes Calpito of the Department of Health-Benguet said they are expecting more cases as expanded testing is in full blast.
“We must ready the laboratories and manpower including the contact tracing teams and staff managing the cases,” Calpito said.
Health officials in the province recommended strict monitoring in infection control measures, the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and the designation of safety officers to do the monitoring.
As confirmed cases were noted among vegetable stakeholders, truckers and traders are asked to keep a daily log comprised of close contacts and travel destinations that would help in contact tracing.
For Covid-19 testing, priority is given for the asymptomatic frontliners and health workers and are also asked to undergo quarantine for 14 days regardless of the result.
As of Tuesday, there are 101 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Cordillera Administrative Region, 52 of which are active.
