Five members of the family of a COVID-positive resident of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental tested negative for the deadly virus, former Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said yesterday.
The 41-year-old female from EB Magalona is the lone COVID-positive resident of Negros Occidental.
A Negros Occidental Inter-Agency Task Force Operations Center report released yesterday showed a decline in the number of persons under investigation and monitoring for COVID-19 in the province.
The persons under investigation (PUIs) in Negros Occidental started at 44 on March 23, peaked at 118 on March 27, and were down to 56 on April 5, the report said.
Of the 56 PUIs, Binalbagan has 2, Calatrava – 6, Cauayan -1, EB Magalona -2, Himamaylan – 3, Hinigaran – 6, Ilog -1, Isabela – 1, La Castellana -2, Manapla -1, Moises Padilla – 3, Pontevedra -1, Pulupandan -1, San Carlos -19, San Enrique -1, Sipalay – 2, Talisay -2, and Valladolid -2.
Persons under monitoring (PUMs) in the province on March 23 were 9,004, peaked at 10,286 on March 26, and were at 7,278 on April 5, the report added.
Meanwhile, Benitez said Negros Occidental’s economy is not as badly hit as other areas.
“Our main engine, the sugar industry, never closed down, BPO centers are operating, and agriculture,” he said.
But tourism and the service sector are badly hit, he added.*
