Tuguegarao City, CAGAYAN – The provincial government of Cagayan is planning on implementing an ‘aggressive community testing’ in towns where COVID-19 cases are significant as the recent cases linked to community transmission are relatively high. Community transmission is when a COVID-19 positive patient does not have any travel history or any confirmed prior exposure to any known COVID-19 patient.
Based on the recent data provided by the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the numbers of new COVID-19 cases are predominantly from community transmission as 12 cases out of the recent 13 have been confirmed.
Cagayan Governor Manuel N. Mamba said that although the COVID-19 cases have been decreasing, the figures attributed to community transmission is alarming. Presently, the provincial government is studying the COVID-19 situation in concerned municipalities such as Allacapan, Iguig, Baggao, Tuguegarao City and others before implementing the said ‘aggressive community testing’ to counter the said problem.
There are currently 126 active cases of COVID-19 in the province of Cagayan and 13 of these are new positive cases as reported by the PHO on Monday, Feb 22. Since March 2020, there are 2,437 confirmed cases, 2,272 recoveries and 39 casualties linked to COVID-19 in the province. TNF
