Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – As President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Luzon island under a state of calamity last November 18, 2020, all the prices of essential goods in Cagayan Valley automatically switched to ‘price freeze.’
Prior to the Proclamation No. 1051 by Malacañang, the Department of Trade and Industry or DTI has initially implemented the freezing of prices in Cagayan and Isabela as early as November 15, 2020 as the provinces were declared under the state of calamity following the devastating effects of the recent widespread flooding.
Today, November 20, 2020 all five (5) provinces in Cagayan Valley including Batanes, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya are now part of the control measure as well as the adjustment in the prices of essential goods which also got other regional government offices working together to implement and police violators of the said adjustment.
DTI and all its regional branches, the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Deparment of Health (DOH) have specified the goods included in the freeze as well as online help desks to report offenders of the RA 7581 or the Price Act amended by RA 10623.
According to the DA, classifications of basic necessities are rice, corn, cooking oil, fresh,dried, and other marine products, fresh eggs, fresh pork, beef and poultry meat, fresh milk, fresh vegetables, root crops, sugar, and fresh fruits. DTI also listed canned fish and other marine products, processed milk, coffee, laundry soap, detergent, candles, bread, salt, potable water in bottles and containers*, locally manufactured instant noodles.
DOE, DENR and DOH also included the following goods firewood, charcoal, household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and Kerosone, and drugs classified as essential by the health department. TNF
