DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Air Force through the Tactical Operations Wing Eastern Mindanao (TOW EastMin) completed construction of an isolation facility to accommodate COVID-19 pediatric patients near the isolation building of Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
The 25-bed emergency quarantine facility (EQF) was formally handed over to the management ofSPMC over the weekend.
According to TOW EastMin Public Information Office chief 2nd Lieutenant Sionie Bitonga, the project was funded by A Generous Davao (AGD), which is a group of business owners and private individuals from Davao City helping the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
The facility is equipped with the necessary amenities such as air-conditioning units, comfortable patient beds, bathroom and toilet facilities, and nurse station.
Bitonga said the project was in partnership with Philippine Army’s 534th Engineering Battalion and was designed by WTA Architecture and Design Studio to suit the need of hospitals in treating COVID-19 patients.
Incorporated in the design are the inputs of SPMC specialists who will be handling all COVID-19 cases from Eastern Mindanao.
This initiative of the TOW EastMin will help the SPMC to cope with expected increase of COVID-19 cases once the mass testing will be implemented.
