DAVAO CITY — Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Colonel Kirby John Kraft has directed all station commanders to strictly implement the extended liquor uo ban in the city in light of the community quarantine brought about by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
DCPO spokesperson Captain Rose Aguilar said the public is prohibited from drinking in public places from 5 p.m to 8 a.m. starting Thursday until the state of public health emergency issued by President Rodrigo Duterte last week is lifted.
Aguilar said one of the objectives of the implementation of the community quarantine is social distancing in which people are discouraged from converging especially inenclosed spaces.
A team from DCPO has been tasked to monitor establishments that will violate the liquor ban.
Mayor Sara Duterte earlier said she sought the opinion of the City Legal Office on this matter.
“One of the recommendations of the City COVID-19 Taak Force na isirado ang mga restaurants ug bars. So ako kasabot ko nga dunay health emergency, kasabot pod ko sa problema sa negosyo kung imo siya isirado. So akong solusyon patas-on nato ang oras sa liquor ban,” Sara said.
(One of the recommendations of the City COVID-19 Task Force is to close all restaurants and bars. I understand that there is a health emergency, but I also understand that businesses will have a problem if we close them down. So my solution is to lengthen the hours of the liquor ban.)
An existing city ordinance bans drinking alcohol in public places beyond 1 a.m.”
