DAVAO CITY — A total of 66 quarantine checkpoints have been established across Davao Region to monitor borders to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In an interview with the Mirror, Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Major Eudisan Gultiano said at least 564 police personnel have been deployed around Region 11 to help enforce the community quarantine that had been enforced all over the region.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Captain Rose Aguilar, meanwhile, said the city has set up 13 quarantine control points in key areas in the city that will be manned by eight uniformed personnel as well as representatives of the City Health Office (CHO), Barangay Health Worker (BHW), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Civil Security Unit (CSU).
“This is apart from the existing three boarder checkpoints in the city: Lasang in Bunawan, Sirawan in Toril, and in Lamanan, Calinan District,” Aguilar said.
PRO 11 director Brigadier General Filmore Escobal gave assurance that his team is doing everything to help the Local Government Units (LGUs) and DOH to maintain peace and order.
He said police are providing security to health responders as well as to the supplies and equipment needed.
Escobal said they will provide security in transporting patients to the appropriate health care facilities.
He said PRO 11 is in close coordination with other agencies to immediately respond to any call for assistance.
Escobal said he has also directed all Provincial and City Directors to activate the PNP Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in their respective levels and organize a quick response team to support the DOH in responding to COVID-19 cases.
He also reminded the team to protect themselves from being infected with the virus.
“Always wear your masks and use alcohol. Be cautious always,” he said.
