CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs-District 7 has exceeded its target collection by P3.3 billion despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
BOC-District 7 is composed of Port of Cebu, Port of Dumaguete and the Port of Mactan.
Based on the data released by Conrado Abarintos, BOC-District 7 chief of the Collection Division, from January to December of this year the agency was able to collect a total of P30.8 billion against its target of P27.6 or a surplus of P3.3 billion.
During the same period, out of the P30.8 billion, the Port of Cebu was able to collect P24.7 billion against its target collection of P22.3 billion or a surplus of P2.4 billion.
The Port of Dumaguete has a surplus of its collection amounting to P801.5 million as its target collection is P4.5 billion as compared to its actual collection of P5 billion.
The Port of Mactan, on the other hand, was able to actually collect P935.2 million against its target collection of P861.3 million or a surplus of P73.8 million.
BOC-District 7 has already attained its 2020 annual target as early as November of this year.
Abarintos said that the bureau was able to hit its target collection and even exceeded due to the continued importation of dutiable importation and the implementation of the electronic value reference system.
Abarintos said that importation such as coal, oil, steel and other highly dutiable importation by their top ten importers and other importers contributed to why they were able to attain its target collection.
BOC-District 7 acting District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza is all praises to the bureau’s personnel on this good performance despite the fact that the country is under circumstances that are not normal. — GMR (FREEMAN)
