CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has expressed willingness to have himself vaccinated first when the time comes the vaccine against COVID-19 would arrive.
Labella said if this is a way to show the effectivity of the vaccine, he would do it so that others would follow and have themselves vaccinated.
“Para nako, og mahimo, unahon nato ang mga pobre. Pero, og kinahanglan sad gyud nga magpabakuna ta para makita na okay ang bakuna, I will do it,” said Labella.
Labella said no vaccine has arrived yet in the city but he is in constant communications with vaccine czar, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr.
“Sa amo nang giestoryahan nga ang tanan gyud nga purchases sa vaccine, mag-agi gyud sa national government through the Office of Sec. Galvez,” he said.
The mayor earlier disclosed that Cebu City will be among the priority areas in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
Labella said they are yet to determine the number of vaccines the city will receive but he assured that the city government will augment whatever the national government will give.
Galvez reportedly told him that if the city will purchase the vaccine, the same will undergo a tripartite agreement among the supplier, national government, and local government.
“I am just waiting for the go signal of Sec. Galvez,” said Labella. — GMR (FREEMAN)
