THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Cordillera Administrative Region said multiple road constructions will continue along Kennon Road.
Members of the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) Inter-agency Task Group Kennon conducted an inspection along different landslide-prone and ongoing rehabilitation work along Kennon Road on Friday, September 25.
The number of vehicles going through the Camp 6 bridge is controlled, with only light vehicles allowed to pass.
Once the project is finished, it can be utilized by all types of vehicles, according to Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Cordillera Director and CRDRRMC chairperson Albert Mogol.
Mogol also identified portions of Camp 6 near the iconic Lion’s head where a temporary damming was observed in the past weeks.
Instead of a direct flow of water, the water from the river went directly to the road.
“Ito iyong iniiwasan natin, kapag nagkaroon ng temporary damming iyong tubig walang pupuntahan, ang nangyari nga dumaan sa kalsada,” Mogol said.
As a short-term intervention, the rocks where removed together with the help of DPWH, local government unit and the residents in the area.
For long-term plans at Camp 6, Mogol said there will be dredging and clearing operations to have continuous flow of water, citing it is a pre-emptive measure to mitigate the flooding to residential areas and maintain a safe environment during storms and localized thunderstorm.
Tanggol, meanwhile, said aside from clearing debris in the river and ongoing slope protection in Camp 6, they plan to complete the retaining wall next year.
Kennon Road will continue to be temporarily closed until further notice except for local residents while trucks or vehicles exceeding the five ton limit are prohibited to pass-through the historic road.
Trucks or vehicles exceeding the five ton gross weight and non-resident motorists going to and from Baguio City were earlier advised to take Marcos Highway, Baguio-Bauang Road or Asin Nangalisan-San Pascual-Rizal-Anduyan Road.
