TO STRICTLY emphasize to commuters the importance of wearing face masks and shields aside from the and observance of physical distancing among public utility vehicle (PUV) riders, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) launched the Public Transport Marshals.
A total of 65 Public Transport Marshals coming from different public utility jeepney (PUJ) terminals of Baguio City joined the launch at Igorot Park on September 5.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Panabang, BCPO chief traffic officer, said the Transport Marshals are given a special assignment to ensure strict implementation of minimum public health standards in all public utility vehicles.
“Cooperation from our city residents as well as our transport group is very much needed to fight the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the city,” Panabang said.
Marshaling operations will be initiated by Philippine National Police personnel to advise, reprimand and apprehend violators of health safety protocols and non-compliance to minimum public health safety standards.
“In situations of the modified general community quarantine in Baguio City, we remind the public to adhere to safety protocols and help the government by being compliant to rules,” Panabang added.
BCPO Director Police Colonel Allen Rey Co expressed his appreciation to PUJ backers, who have been tasked to be Transport Marshalls, for their support.
“We thank our associations and our barkers for their cooperation. These are additional tasks for them but they willingly accepted, as part of their duty and responsibility in our ongoing fight against our public enemy number 1, the Covid-19.” Co said.
Aside from the strict observance of minimum health protocols, Transport Marshalls will also ensure the observance of regular disinfection of PUJ units before and after loading.
