ENROLLEES for Baguio City National High School (BCNHS), considered as the biggest public education institution in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), are nearing the 10,000 mark.

Principal Brenda Cariño said there are more than 7,000 enrolled in the main campus, while close to 2,000 are enrolled in two annexes for the 2020-2021 school year.

For this school year, Cariño said BCNHS will be opening the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Stem) Strand for senior high school learners.

“It’s almost 8,000 because based on my last virtual orientation report to our parents, it was at 7,946 here at the main campus alone. If we were to add our annexes at Fort Del Pilar and at Hillside, we are currently reaching around 9,003 based on our last count,” Cariño said.

BCNHS has 320 teaching and 80 non-teaching staffs.

“In terms of our preparations for the start of school on October 5, our school and employees are currently busy with the learning modules. Here at city high, we are presently doing the printing and preparation of our learning modules which we reproduce, package and sort out. We are also awaiting for materials uploaded to our learning resource portals from our division office which undergoes quality control procedures by our supervisors at the division office,” Cariño added.

Cariño said teachers have undergone training on the delivery of distance learning.

“All of our teachers have to learn the latest technology to be used under the distance learning modality for them to cater to students that would prefer to go online. Around 80 to 85 percent of the parents surveyed have indicated their preference for the printed learning modules which is the basic learning modality. A little percent showed those favoring online learning for those capable of going on line however, we still believe for students to have printed learning modules which we will be providing them,” Cariño added.

In January this year, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones commended DepEd-Cordillera and BCNHS for their achievements in promoting best reading practices as part of the agency’s national effort to elevate the country’s education quality.
