THE Angeles City government has recorded zero case of dengue for May due to the intensified misting and fogging operations here all year round.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. cited that the city saw a steady decline in the number of dengue cases during the first quarter of 2021.
“We want to keep it that way, especially now that the rainy season has started,” Lazatin said.
Records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that the number of reported dengue cases has dropped to zero in May and five in April. There were 87 cases reported in January which decreased to 69 cases in February, and 41 cases in March.
Amid the pandemic, the city government has continued its massive cleanup and fumigation in various barangays, forming teams from the Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office, Angeles City Barangay Outreach, and CHO-Sanitation Division to fast-track the fogging operations in each village supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel.
Vaccination areas at the City College of Angeles and Angeles City National High School are also both regularly fumigated.
According to Lazatin, while also ensuring the city’s aim to vaccinate all Angeleños, prevention measures for the occurrence of dengue are being undertaken.
“Tuloy-tuloy po ang fumigation na ginagawa natin sa 33 barangays at iba pang pampublikong lugar sa siyudad, upang masiguro na hindi pugaran ng mga lamok na nagdadala ng dengue ang mga lugar na ito,” he said.
Aside from the anti-dengue fumigation, the city government continuously puts a premium on the health of every Angeleno, with its three-in-one clinic Puso Center. It provides free health services such as minor surgeries and animal bite treatment.
To date, the Puso Center has served 5,500 patients since its opening in February 2020, while 6,000 residents availed themselves of anti-rabies vaccines.
The city’s residents can also avail themselves of readily available medicines through the City Hall’s Dispensary Unit and Rural Health Units (RHUs) in 33 barangays.
Some 12,823 individuals received free medicines from the city government – 5,654 Angeleños were given medicines from the City Hall Dispensary Unit while the remaining 7,169 individuals availed theirs from six RHUs.
There were also 3,275 residents who received their free medicines delivered door-to-door, in particular, the elderly and Persons with Disabilities.
Lazatin has vowed to continue prioritizing the health of Angelenos despite facing the many challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
