DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio formally filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Saturday afternoon, October 2, 2021, in Davao City.
The mayor had filed her COC as reelectionist for the same position.
Duterte-Carpio arrived at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office inside Magsaysay Park around 4 p.m.
In a Facebook post, the mayor thanked her supporters for their trust and confidence.
“I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support. Many of you do not know me and yet you carry me over your shoulders,” Duterte-Carpio said.
“Like the other millions of Filipinos, I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly and credible elections in May 2022,” Duterte-Carpio added.
Dutere-Carpio was first elected as mayor from 2010 to 2013.
The supporters of Duterte-Carpio had been conducting motorcades across the country, urging her to run for the presidency in the 2022 elections.
However, amid rumors and calls for her to run for president, Duterte-Carpio said she will be running as a reelectionist in the upcoming elections.
The COC filing is set to end on October 8.
