AFTER being the vocalist of a popular Bisrock (Bisayan Rock) band, a journalist, an editor and an opinion columnist, Lorenzo “Insoy” Niñal is working towards being a public servant as well.

The vocalist of Missing Filemon and former editor and columnist of SunStar Cebu filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, setting his sights to win as a town councilor of his hometown Pinamungajan in next year’s local and national elections.

Niñal is part of the Pinamungajan town’s administration bloc, Team Kalamboan, led by Mayor Glenn Baricuatro who will be running for vice mayor after serving as father of the town for three consecutive terms.

Niñal told SunStar Cebu that aside from music, he is also passionate about public service.

Niñal’s plan to run for public office began late last year when he received a call from Deputy Speaker Pablo John “PJ” Garcia (Cebu, Third), who suggested he run for a local position in his hometown.

Niñal said he was honored to have garnered Garcia’s support and he believes that Garcia has seen something in him that could help in pushing for progress in his hometown.

Niñal said serving the community and those in need was not strange to him as he had been organizing activities in his town that could help the townsfolk.

If given the opportunity to be elected town councilor, Niñal said he will dedicate his life serving his constituents and continuing the good work that the town’s administration bloc has done, including initiating important infrastructure projects.

He will also plan to continue his and his wife’s initiative to provide community livelihood and assistance to their town’s fisherfolks and farmers.

He said he and his wife, Rachel, made the initiative even before he decided to run for public office.

But even as he seeks life as a public servant, Niñal said that music is still his life.

Even if he becomes town councilor, Niñal said, he has no plans to retire from being a musician, adding that the music that he and his bandmates have made have provided happiness to others. (KFD)
