THE ward beds for Covid-19 patients in Davao Region have already reached the “warning zone” level, according to data from the Department of Health-Davao Region (DOH-Davao).
As of August 19, 60.49 percent of Covid-19 ward beds have already been occupied.
According to DOH-Davao Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Officer Cleofe Tabada, the utilization rate is still within the “warning zone.”
She said the level is considered under the “warning zone” when the occupancy rate is between 31 to 70 percent, and under “safe zone” when it is from 1 to 30 percent.
She said Davao is at the risk of reaching the “danger zone” level, which is 71 to 100 percent.
Meanwhile, DOH-Davao also presented other critical care utilization rates of all designated Covid-19 beds in the region, which remains under “warning zone.”
According to the data, the occupancy rate for other Covid-19 isolation beds is at 39.47 percent, intensive care unit beds at 41.86 percent, severe cases at 43.54 percent, and severe to critical at 43.38 percent.
Tabada said the figure shows that more Covid-19 cases are being handled by local health authorities at the designated facilities.
“Is this good? Initially, I would say this is better than the previous since more Covid-19 patients are now being brought to the isolation facilities,” she said in a virtual presser.
Although she said there is still a need to look out for the region’s current bed capacity.
The region has currently two Covid-19 designated hospitals: Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City, and Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Tabada said both hospitals can still cater to more patients in case there is a need to expand for more beds.
SPMC officer-in-charge Dr. Ricardo Audan said they are currently scouting for more beds, although Covid-19 cases being admitted to SPMC are still manageable.
