THE University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) main campus, through its official Facebook page, held a webinar series entitled “Piniliay 2022 Voter Education Series” on Monday, March 14, 2022.
The forum with the theme “The right to self-raise and the sanctity of election,” was focused mainly on spreading awareness and appropriate values in choosing the right candidates for both the local and national elections on May 9, 2022. The forum also discussed the current issues that the Philippines has been dealing with and how its next leader will address them.
“It is about how the next leader of our country responds and addresses the many challenges that confront every Filipino citizen on a daily basis,” said Fr. Roy Baluarte Oar, Vice President for Student Welfare of USJ-R.
Former Comelec commissioner and guest speaker lawyer Rowena V. Guanzon tackled the right of voters to vote as “informed voters,” the right to campaign for their chosen candidate and the proliferation of trolls and fake news online.
Guanzon urged voters to report cases of red-tagging and be vigilant against it.
Guanzon also highlighted the importance of freedom of speech in the upcoming 2022 election wherein voters will be given the chance to speak, campaign, and vote freely for their chosen candidates.
“We teach our children that education is a premium, a privilege that every family must attain,” said Guanzon during the forum. (HIC, TPT)
