This, after the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), where he is a member, has already announced in a meeting that they will support Sotto, who is the party’s chairman.
Lacson already talked about the matter with vice presidential aspirant and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who is the runningmate of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo.
The Leni-Kiko tandem was in Negros Occidental last Friday, March 11, for their provincewide sortie.
He said that Pangilinan and his wife, megastar Sharon Cuneta, a niece of Sotto, understood the situation.
“The party is really pushing for the candidacy of Sotto,” Lacson, a supporter of Robredo, emphasized.
The governor said he will ask other NPC members in the province, particulalry those who were also absent during the NPC meeting, to also support the bid of Sotto.
Meanwhile, Lacson said he is just glad that he contributed a little to the success of the recent People’s Rally of Robredo in Bacolod City and in the province.
When asked if he will convince other mayors to join him in support for Robredo, Lacson said, “We will see (but) I respect their stand especially Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and I don’t want to be the reason to break that commitment.”
Lacson, who introduced Robredo during the People’s Rally, was trending in social media especially on Twitter.
“You know my feet are on the ground and I know that this will die down soon. It also tells me that as a cheerleader I did it well so that is my role that night,” he said.
Lacson also said that Robredo had a lot of good intentions for the country, especially for Western Visayas.
The vice president mentioned the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros Bridge and the revival of Negros Island Region (NIR) as among her priorities during her campaign sortie.
The governor said that Robredo admitted that her team still has a lot of work to do, admitting that she is lagging behind.
“The Leni camp’s feet are on the ground and they know the situation now but they are very inspired and hopeful that things can turn around,” Lacson stressed.
If there is another opportunity, Lacson said he will campaign more for Robredo.*
