THE Covid-19 vaccine simulation in Lapu-Lapu City failed to push through on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 after the majority of city’s health personnel were isolated.
This happened after eight of the health office employees tested positive for the virus that causes the contagious respiratory disease.
The simulation was supposed to be carried out by the City Health Office and the Department of Health (DOH) 7.
Mayor Junard Chan said the eight Covid-positive health personnel include members of the contact tracing team and his sister Grace Mary Carungay.
However, Chain said Carungay, the city’s epidemiological and surveillance unit officer, is recovering after experiencing difficulty in breathing during the early days of her symptoms.
The head of the City Health Office, Dr. Agnes Realiza, also isolated herself while waiting for the swab result.
Chan said the City will hold the vaccine simulation in March, or depending on what date the DOH 7 chooses to hold the activity.
Members of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) were not badly hit by the ongoing rise of Covid-19 cases in the city. The DRRMO had reported that its two personnel had tested positive but they have recovered, and no other personnel were infected.
The personnel of DRRMO and the City Health Office are frontliners. They are involved in testing, transporting and isolating Covid-19 positive individuals, and locating close contacts.
Chan said he has the reason to delay the vaccine simulation.
“We are not in a hurry because most of our health workers are now suffering from Covid-19,” he said. (GCM)
