CITY Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya on Saturday, April 10, 2021, reiterated that a person can still be infected with the novel coronavirus even after getting vaccinated.
“Dili magkompyansa bisan pag nabakunahan, that’s the bottomline,” Retuya said.
“Kung magpadayon ang exposure sa usa ka tao sa dunay mga kaso ug sa dili pag practice sa minimum public health standards, ang bakuna dili ka nga dili ka matakdan,” he added.
Retuya explained that a vaccinated individual can still be tested positive for Covid-19 because the vaccines can only prevent the occurence of severe and critical cases.
“Ang bakuna isa lang sa mga istratehiya nato aron dili ka mopadulong didto ngadto sa mga kaso nga severe or mga kaso nga mamatay,” Retuya said.
“Wala pay bakuna nga maka cause og sterility, sterilizing immunity,” he added.
Sterilizing immunity, Retuya further said, is a case wherein a vaccinated individual will no longer be infected with the virus.
“Dili na ka matakdan sa maong sakit. Wala pay bakuna ana kining Covid-19 nga nakahimo niana,” Retuya said.
The city epidemiologist said everyone, particularly the frontline healthcare workers, should continue to strictly observe minimum public health standards even after getting their dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Cagayan de Oro has 7,103 healthcare workers who received their first dose of the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines.
According to the City Health Office, from April 5 to 9, a total of 4,200 frontline medical workers from the city’s various hospitals have gotten their second dose of the Sinovac vaccines.
Among the hospitals were Northern Mindanao Medical Center, JR Borja General Hospital, Cagayan de Oro Medical Center, Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, Capitol University Medical Center, Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital, Madonna Child Hospital, and Polymedic Medical Plaza.
