NEGROS Occidental Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Tuesday, August 3, that there is a low turnout of senior citizens in the vaccination program of the province.

Diaz said under the A2 category, only 36,483 individuals, or roughly 30 percent of the target senior citizen population of the province, have been vaccinated.

Based on records by the Provincial Health Office, they have already vaccinated 818,628 or 82.9 percent of the frontline health workers or those tagged under the A1 category.

Those under the A3 or persons with comorbidities, meanwhile, have already exceeded the rate at 134 percent or 68,623.

Diaz said some senior citizens are likely still hesitating about getting vaccinated, or if willing to get vaccinated are most likely concerned about mobility.

Diaz said the Provincial Health Office is now working on a strategy in order to convince senior citizens to get vaccinated.

They are currently working on rolling the vaccines by barangay in order to entice senior citizens to get the jab.

For the overall vaccination program, Diaz said the province has reached only about 10 percent. But he said they make sure that all the vaccines received by the province from the Department of Health are immediately utilized.
