NEGROS Occidental is still under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), as there is still no approval on the request of provincial officials that the province be placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) status.
In a message to the query of SunStar Bacolod if the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) will grant the request of Negros Occidental to be placed under GCQ, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said, “Not for now. Let’s see this week.”
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, for his part, wants to be clarified if indeed the regional IATF has officially endorsed the request of the province to be placed under GCQ because of the surge of Covid-19 cases.
Lacson said he received information that the national IATF has denied the request of the province.
“That’s why I want to be clarified,” he said.
He said Covid-19 cases have been up by triple digits for three weeks now.
Under the GCQ, movement within the province will be limited and some of the LGUs may even close their borders to travelers.
Lacson clarified, though, that despite the pending approval of the national IATF to place the province under GCQ, a unified curfew protocol has been implemented since Monday, April 12, throughout the province.
As agreed by the mayors and provincial officials, the province’s curfew hours are 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
