TEN doctors and two nurses from what is called the “Big Four” hospitals in Negros Occidental were the first to get the Sinovac Covid-19 in the province, an official said.

“It was fantastic and touching to see,” said Vaccination Testing Czar Vince Dizon, who witnessed the ceremonial vaccination at Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City Tursday, March 11, 2021.

He was joined by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, former congressman and Provincial Consultant Alfredo Benitez, House Minority Leader Stephen Paduano and Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Golez.

The 12 individuals who were vaccinated Thursday were doctors from Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, namely Dr. Mary Ann Maestral, chief of clinics; Dr. Glenn Rivera, chair of the Department of Medicine; Dr. Francis Gabriel Relota, medical specialist II, Hospital Safety Committee chair; Dr. Geno Dominic Alojado, Infection Control Committee chair; Dr. Jean Alojado, Department of Pediatrics; Ma. Maricel Judith, chief nurse; and Kristine Kaye Necir, medical technologist.

From Cadiz District Hospital Team were Dr. Laarni Guanzon, chair of Department of Medicine and Randy Peacita, OIC chief nurse.

From Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital Team were Dr. Jeffry Castillon, Internal Medicine; Denmark Gonito, nurse I and HEPO designate and from Valladolid District Hospital Angelo Magalona, nurse 1.

Dizon said the acceptance of the vaccines are now getting high and that the demand is higher than the supply.

He said this is due to the right facts and information that all vaccines, regardless of brand, protect people from severe disease and death.

“Then that is the most important. We will see acceptability and confidence just keep going on,” he added.

He assured that the general population will get the vaccine by the second half of 2021. Senior citizens and those with comorbidities and vulnerable to those who are sick will be the next priority after health frontliners.

Benitez said several brands of vaccines are arriving in the country.

He added all health frontliners will be completely vaccinated by the end of the month.
