An article published by the American business and financial magazine Forbes has placed the Philippines among the countries with the most potential for tourism recovery in a post COVID world.
The article, entitled http://Rising Stars in Travel, predicted a boom in tourism after the current pandemic, with the Philippines among the “underrated” places that have the potential to rise.
It cited, in particular, Palawan and Boracay as the country’s top destinations.
“Many nations around the world are preparing for a boom in international visitors once travel is more feasible – for some countries, this could be their first opportunity to establish themselves as a prominent regional force for tourism,” the article, written by a Jared Lanahan, stated.
“Those planning to lounge on the sandy shores should head to Visayas, the country’s central archipelago, where island destinations like Palawan and Boracay offer some of the nation’s finest white sand beaches, as well as countless opportunities to spot some of the endemic plant and animal species of the Philippines,” it added.
The Department of Tourism reacted to the story with a press statement.
“We are pleased to have received this bit of good news, especially after our industry had been hit hard by the global health pandemic,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.
“International recognition, especially by a well-respected publication like Forbes, in this post-COVID-19 world will go a long way in helping the Philippine tourism industry get back on its feet,” she said.
“With the public’s health and safety in mind, we are preparing our tourism sites in areas now under the modified general community quarantine for their gradual reopening for domestic tourism,” she added.
Provincial information officer Winston Arzaga also expressed appreciation with the article.
“Masaya tayo sa balita na ‘yan, it is very positive for our tourism industry. Also, it is an affirmation on the stature of Palawan. Special mention pa ang Palawan and Boracay. For me, it gives so much hope for the stakeholders na bumalik sa dati ang ating turismo,” Arzaga said.
