The Philippine Navy’s (PN) BRP Ivatan (LCH298) on May 13 docked on Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), utilizing a beaching ramp nearing completion in the island, defense sources told Palawan News.
The BRP Ivatan was thus the country’s first naval vessel to berth on the island, where a beaching ramp is still under construction but already usable.
BRP Ivatan’s visit was in connection with the Naval Forces West’s (NFW) Troop Rotation and Reprovisioning (RORE) Mission in the different Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) detachments of the WPS.
BRP Ivatan, skippered by Cdr. Bennie B Demetillo, performed its task as platform of NFW’s mission team for rotation of troops of Pag-asa Detachment and delivering the necessary supplies and goods for consumption of the Sailors and Marines assigned there as security personnel.
It arrived in Puerto Princesa City early morning of May 17 after weeks of traversing the West Philippine Sea for Troop RORE in KIG detachments which also include Rizal Reef Detachment (RRD), Lawak and Patag Islands.
