DISEASE trackers of the health agency detected yesterday 142 fresh coronavirus infections in Northern Mindanao, the most cases to have been confirmed in a day this year. Previous single-day high was 150 cases that was recorded Oct. 13 last year.
Covid-19 briefer of the Department of Health Region 10 that was posted online yesterday showed the new detections brought the region’s cumulative count to 10,195 though 83% or 8,444 of them had already recovered.
Dr. David Mendoza, who heads DOH 10’s local health support division, reported in a press conference yesterday morning that there is a “slight increase” to 15.51% from 15.03% on a two-week growth rate of Covid-19 confirmed cases in the region.
Mendoza said that the region’s average daily attack rate has also gone up a bit to 1.1% from the previous 1.06% per 100,000 population.
The latest Covid-19 detections, as indicated in the DOH 10 briefer, are composed of 138 local transmission cases and four infections which returning residents from abroad or from other places in the country may have caught somewhere.
These 142 newly-diagnosed infectious individuals are from Cagayan de Oro (62), Bukidnon (39), Misamis Oriental (23), Misamis Occidental (10), Iligan (6), and Lanao del Norte (2).
With the newly-infected persons, there are now 1,396 active Covid-19 cases in the region who are residents of Cagayan de Oro (364), Bukidnon (341), Misamis Occidental (323), Misamis Oriental (297), Iligan (57), Lanao del Noirte (13), and Camiguin (1).
Persons labelled as “active cases” are either asymptomatic or symptomatic, and are cared for in temporary treatment and monitoring facilities or admitted in hospitals and medical centers.
