FORTY of 71 people in Northern Mindanao, who tested positive for Covid-19 from March 24 until yesterday, were either workers who returned from abroad or citizens who had been stranded elsewhere in the country because of quarantine restrictions.
In a Covid-19 briefer, which the Department of Health 10 posted online last night, all entries under “ROF/LSI” (“returning overseas Filipinos/locally-stranded individuals”) by local governments are tallied separately.
The 40 confirmed Covid-19 cases are in Misamis Occidental (12), Bukidnon (7), Cagayan de Oro (7), Lanao del Norte (6), Misamis Oriental (4), and Iligan (4).
These include the 10 new cases over the weekend: three in Lanao del Norte, three in Misamis Occidental, two in Cagayan de Oro, and one each in Misamis Oriental, and Iligan City.
Out of the 71 Covid-19 patients, 31 contracted the Sars-Cov-2 either from travels abroad, Metro Manila or Cebu, exposures to virus carriers, or from local transmissions in barangays Carmen and Camaman-an, in this city.
Combined, the cumulative Covid-19 cases per government units: Bukidnon (9), Camiguin (1), Lanao del Norte (8), Misamis Occidental (15), Misamis Oriental (4), Cagayan de Oro (26), and Iligan (8).
Forty-one or 58% of the 71 are active cases, seven of them are currently admitted in hospitals while 34 are closely monitored by a health management team in various isolation units in the region.
The briefer also showed that 21 or 30% of the Covid-19-infected patients recovered or tested negative in their second or third swab examinations while nine or 12% of all confirmed cases succumbed to the viral disease.
It tallied 451 people, feared to be carriers of the virus, who are categorized as “suspect cases” after they have been risk-assessed upon their arrivals at airports, seaports, or bus terminals.
Seventy-five of them, who have shown “mild” symptoms, are in hospitals while 376, who are asymptomatic, are “outpatients.” are quarantined for 14 days in CIUs or their respective homes.
Those suspected with Covid-19 include those who have been contact-traced having been exposed to Covid-19 patients. (Uriel C. Quilinguing
