Cauayan City, Isabela – The World Health Organization said on Monday, April 18, that the definition of “fully vaccinated” vs COVID-19 may change in time as the virus evidently evolves.
The WHO added that the term of being fully vaxxed against the said virus is ‘vague’ as its very definition may change over time, citing that there had already been proposals to redefine it.
Acting WHO Asia rep Dr. Rajendra Yadav said in a presser, “Fully vaccinated is a vague term because it’s definition may change with evolving evidence. How many boosters are required? Do we need to keep giving boosters every six months? We don’t know yet.”
“Because this is a new pandemic and the COVID-19 is new for us. So it’s better to use terms like up to date with the recommended schedules,” the WHO official added.
Recently, some health experts and governments have sought to redefine the term “fully vaxxed” for individuals who have been given their booster shots after their initial two doses.
Meanwhile, some health officials and experts in vaccines oppose the idea, including the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, emphasizing that a fully vaccinated individual has received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Department of Health Philippines has previously told reporters that the national government eyes to start giving out second booster doses or the 4th COVID-19 vaccine shots for Filipinos with health risks or comorbidities by the end of April 2022. TNF
