Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Department of Health (DOH) has reported late on Monday, October 18, that the country’s daily COVID-19 deaths have dropped to figures below the 100-mark as a steady drop in cases has been observed.
DOH added that the this has been the first time it has recorded the figures since April, and has noted a decreasing trend in new infected patients over the past weeks.
From October 1 to October 17, a nationwide death toll of 1,170 has been recorded by the health department with an average of 69 deaths per day.
However, the number of deaths reported on Monday increased to 86, a figure still below the 100-mark.
The health department noted in its report that an average of more than 100 Filipinos have died of COVID-19 each day since the surge started in April 2021.
April’s daily death toll has been staggering with an average of 135 dead per day and a total of 4,055 dead patients in that month alone due to COVID-19.
The total 3,843 casualties in May yielded a report of a daily average of 124 per day, 108 per day in June, 101 daily in July.
However, the surge in August caused by the deadlier Delta variant, had a nationwide daily death toll average of 163, killing 5,055 Filipinos in that month alone.
Last month in September, deaths have decreased to 4,308, or a daily average of 144 per day.
The country’s overall death toll is now at 40,761, where 60% of the fatalities have occurred over the last 6 months of 2021 alone. TNF
