Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A steady drop in COVID-19 infections has been noted by health authorities in Batanes province amid the extension of its Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
The Provincial Government of Batanes led by Governor Marilou Cayco and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) have extended the MECQ which started last October 14 until October 31 as the COVID-19 cases are still above the 200-mark.
On Tuesday, October 19, the number of active cases have once again dropped to 225, after its provincial health office has logged 15 new recoveries, and only 3 new positive cases with 1 fatality.
The epicenter of infections is still in the town of Basco with 196 active patients, where the surge was initially logged last September 16 where the first 4 infected had reported no travel history and no prior contact with any known COVID-19 patients.
Ivana town has also recorded a continuous decrease in COVID-19 cases with now only 12 active, Sabtang with 10, and Mahatao with 7.
Only the towns of Uyugan and Itbayat are currently COVID-19 free.
The island province previously reached figures above the 500-mark during the peak of the surge late in September towards the first week of October. TNF
