According to the latest data from the Department of Health’s (DOH) virus tracker, some 112 of the new cases were from Angeles City, while the rest of the cases were mainly from the City of San Fernando.
Some 91 new cases were reported in the City of San Fernando in at least 29 barangays of the city. The new rise has brought the active cases in the city to some 324 cases.
In Santa Rita town, 15 new cases were reported from Barangays San Isidro Diladila, San Basilio, San Jose, San Juan, San Vicente and Santa Monica. Six new cases were also recorded in Magalang town. On January 6, seven new cases were reported in Mexico town.
Sasmuan town also reported two new cases on January 8, its first active cases for the year.
Pampanga’s total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic is nearing the 70,000-mark, with some 69,996 reported confirmed cases as of Friday. Some 67,192 of these confirmed cases have all recovered.
Deaths from the virus in the whole province since the start of the pandemic have reached 1, 742 cases.
The province’s bed occupancy rate rose to 32.5 percent due to an increase in cases. This meant some 333 hospital beds in 46 health facilities of the province were currently occupied, with 683 beds remaining vacant.
