REELECTIONIS Pampanga Third District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales, Jr. is now running unopposed in the coming May 2022 local elections.

This, after no other contender was able to file a candidacy to contest the said post against Gonzales.

Gonzales only needs to secure at least one vote to be reelected for his last term as member of the House of Representatives and increase his chances of assuming a leadership post in congress.

Wearing clothes from the time he ran for the congressional seat in 2016, Gonzales filed his certificate of candidacy last week flanked by Governor Dennis Pineda and his two children, who are also running for two local positions.

His son Aurelio Brenz Gonzales is running for city councilor of San Fernando while daughter Mica Gonzales is running for Third District board member, a post the elder Gonzales once occupied before running for congress.

The reelectionist congressman, known for landmark legislations like Republic Act (RA) 9505, otherwise known as Dong’s Law, which provided for the continued and comprehensive rehabilitation of the town of Bacolor from the devastation it suffered as a result of the Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991, and RA 9832 for the conversion of the Don Honorio Ventura School of Arts and Trade into the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University, said that there is now a new chapter in his role in Pampanga’s politics, adding that he will continue work alongside allies.

Gonzales held the third district congressional seat from 2004 to 2010. He again ran in 2016. He also previously served as board member of the district from 2001 to 2004.

He added that his brand of public service will still continue in terms of healthcare and other social service programs with the support of the Pinedas.
