SIX months into their administration, the public trust of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and Vice President Sara Z. Duterte among Davao City residents has declined, according to a local survey.
Marcos earned a net trust rating of 26.3 based on a survey conducted on November 23 to December 5 by the Institute of Popular Opinion (IPO) of the University of Mindanao (UM-IPO).
The 26.3 rating is a stark difference from what Marcos earned in Davao City five months prior, which was 49.5 net trust rating.
“46.2 percent of the Dabawenyos have ‘much trust’ with PBBM [Marcos], which slid from 64.3 percent on the survey conducted six months ago,” IPO-UM said.
In addition, those who have “slight trust” rose to 33.9 percent from 21 percent, as well as those who have “no trust”, which increased from 14.8 percent to 19.9 percent.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s public trust rating declined by 12.6 percentage points.
Her latest net trust is 65.5 percent, slightly lower than the 78.1 percent net trust she earned in the previous survey.
Dabawenyos who expressed “slight trust” in the vice president rose to 17.3 percent from 8.1 percent while those who have “no trust” shot up to 8.6 percent from 2.9 percent.
The survey targeted 1,200 residents from the three districts of Davao City. According to UM-IPO, the target respondents were random based on predefined criteria and were conducted online.
“Sampling was set at 95 percent confidence level and 2.5 percent margin of error,” the Institute said.
The Dabawebyos were also asked about their trust in other national officials. Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri’s net trust is 14.7 percent from the previous 16.7 percent.
House of Representative speaker Martin Romualdez earned a 10.6 percent net trust while Chief Justice Alexander Gesmudo earned 0.5 percent from 19.5 percent in the previous survey.
“This was seen in the increase in the number of Dabawenyos who said that they have slight trust with the Chief Justice yet a dip in terms of those who expressed unequivocal trust and a rise in the number of those who distrust him,” IPO-UM said. ICM
