“I am running for the vice president, and my president is Bongbong Marcos,” Duterte-Carpio said in a recorded video message posted on her official Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, March 23.
The mayor said she is aware that some of her supporters wanted her to be paired with other candidates. These include Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
“I take that as a sign of confidence in me as a leader, and for that, I am truly, deeply, touched, and honored,” she said.
“But I am a person, a woman, a leader who values commitment and word of honor,” she added.
Duterte-Carpio said she had accepted to run for the vice presidency, with the commitment that she would be running alongside Marcos in the top electoral post in the country.
“When we agreed to form the UniTeam of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte, we both agreed to run together with the singular purpose of improving the lives of the Filipinos, and making the Philippines a stronger country,” the mayor said.
“I intend to honor the commitment of my party, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats and Hugpong ng Pagbabago — that is to support Bongbong Marcos as President,” Duterte-Carpio added.
Albay Second District Representative Joey Salceda, Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar and Cagayan de Oro Second District Representative Rufus Rodriguez launched on Monday, March 21, the Robredo-Sara (Rosa) movement in Cagayan de Oro, wherein they are pushing the country’s top executive positions to be run by women.
Supporters of Moreno and Duterte-Carpio formed the “ISAng Pilipinas” coalition.
Duterte-Carpio, in a previous speaking engagement, said she does not see working with any other president rather than Marcos.
Meanwhile, the mayor said she is “inspired” by her supporters around the country.
“My vice presidential candidacy continues to move forward, encouraged, and inspired by the overwhelming welcome from thousands and thousands of Filipinos across the country,” she said.
