THE local government unit of Davao City announced on Monday, January 24, that from January 22 to 29, 74 barangays are classified as critical risk, while three are under high risk.

Based on the list given by the local government unit (LGU), the data highlighted the two-week growth rate (2WGR) and the average daily attack rate (Adar), two parameters set by the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) that determines how fast the infection spread in a certain area.

The 2WGR measures the growth of Covid-19 in the area, while the Adar is the average number of new cases per 100,000 persons.

The barangays listed under critical risk are classified as having both high 2WGR and Adar.

“We have been releasing this list since about a year and a half ago, para ma-guide ang mga tao asa naga-concentrate and mga Covid-19 cases and for people to properly plan and rethink kung mubisita ba sila sa ani na mga barangay,” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in a radio interview on Monday, January 24.

Meanwhile, the “high risk” areas identified were Barangays 16-B, Talomo River, and Tamugan.

During the interview, Duterte-Carpio clarified that the City Government will not put on lockdown barangays or streets, but rather will impose granular lockdown per household or establishment that recorded a high number of confirmed cases.

“Because we are in a surge, expected nidaghan ang mga barangay nga naa sa critical risk and high risk,” said the mayor.
