Based on the data shared by Schlosser during the Covid-19 Alert program of Davao City Disaster Radio on December 8, there were a total of 1,756 children aged 0 to 10 years old who were reported to have been infected with Covid-19 while 1,623 are 11 to 17 years old.
According to Schlosser, this is an increase compared to the data from March to May 2021 wherein there were only 206 infections under the 0-10 years old group, while 194 are between the ages of 11-17.
“This (0-11 years old) is the age group na wala pa layer of protection kasi wala pa bakuna (that does not have a layer of protection from vaccines),” said Schlosser. “Think twice before dalon sa gawas o (you bring them outside or in) areas and establishment na high risk ang inyong mga anak (where the risk is high for the children).”
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 positivity rate remains at less than one percent.
“To be specific 0.4 percent (positivity rate). Even with the swabees nato, gamay ra gyod atong cases so that’s good news,” said Schlosser.
The spokesperson also admitted that 100 percent of the current active cases from November 8 to December 4 are unvaccinated and have mild symptoms.
“The data is showing us that dako gyod ang chance na ma-infect kung dili bakunado. Although mild lang siya, natakdan gihapon ka and since natakdan ka, you can still spread it (data shows that those who are unvaccinated have a higher chance of getting infected. Though some of them are mild cases, you have to understand that they can still spread it and infect others),” she said.
In line with the city’s recent achievement of reaching herd immunity, Schlosser said that 1,009,921 are fully vaccinated as of Wednesday while 1,171,050 have been administered with the first dose.
Schlosser said vaccinations are still ongoing while the second round of Bayanihan Bakunahan: National Vaccination Day is set on December 15 to 17, 2021. The city hopes to reach 100 percent vaccination before the year ends.
