(UPDATED) DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio withdrew Tuesday, November 9, 2021, her candidacy as mayor of the city for the 2022 elections.

Duterte-Carpio arrived at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Davao City around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

She declined to be interviewed by members of the press waiting for her outside the Comelec office.

But in a statement posted on her Facebook page, she confirmed that she withdrew her candidacy for reelection.

“Ngayong hapon wini-withdraw ko ang akong kandidatura sa pagka-mayor ng Davao City. Si VM Baste ang papalit sa akin,” she said

(I have withdrawn as a candidate for mayor of Davao City. Vice Mayor Baste will be running for mayor.)

She added that lawyer Melchor Quitain will replace Baste as vice-mayoral bet. (With SunStar Philippines)
