THE Department of Health (DOH)-Davao has urged all local government units (LGUs) in the region to fast-track the vaccination rollout as some provinces have not yet reached 50 percent of their vaccine utilization.

This is in response to the recent directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to ramp up the vaccination drive in all LGUs after he was dissatisfied with the vaccine turnout.

Dr. Raquel Montejo, DOH-Davao Local Health Support Division chief, said during its regular virtual presser on Tuesday, November 9, that out of the 5,371,254 targeted population in the region, only 40 percent or 1,504,075 individuals were fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.

The region is targeting to achieve 70 percent herd immunity, composed of 3,759,878 individuals.

According to the vaccine allocation and utilization rate as of November 8, Davao City has 84.2 percent utilization rate out of the 1,066,727 doses for the first dose allocation, while 76.4 percent (822,890 dose) of the second dose vaccines were already allocated, and 184.2 percent (15,650 doses) were utilized for the single-shot Janssen vaccine.

Davao Occidental has the lowest vaccine utilization rate with 33 percent (132,526 doses) utilized for the first dose, 19.2 percent (133,526 doses) utilized for second dose, and 97.75 percent (28,000) vaccine utilization rate for Janssen.

“More or less hopefully kung tuloy-tuloy na ang Davao City, ang ilang total number of vaccinated individuals would maintain or increase, pwede na nila makab-ot sa city before the year ends ang 70 percent herd immunity (if the Davao City Government would maintain or increase the total number of vaccinated individuals, the city can achieve the 70 percent herd immunity before the year ends),” Montejo said during the DOH-Davao virtual presser.

The health official said LGUs, as being monitored by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), should expedite further the vaccination drive, going down to the grassroots.

“Lalo na mga LCEs [local chief executives] to ramp up ‘yung ating (This goes out to the LCEs to ramp up their) vaccination activities. Pinapamonitor niya [Duterte] sa lahat ng LGUs sa Davao Region na kung pwede, mag-barangay barangay na. Isuyod na tanang households kung nabakunahan na or wala pa (He also ordered to monitor all LGUs in Davao Region, if possible, it would be brought down to the barangay level),” she said.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in an interview on Monday, November 8, that DILG has reminded all LGUs, including Davao City, to increase their vaccination against Covid-19 and finish it before the year ends.

The directive was issued during a meeting last week.

She said the DILG also emphasized increasing the daily vaccination target.

“We were reminded by DILG na pag dili ma-hit ang (that if we won’t be able to hit the) daily target, it must be added on to the next day’s target para (so that) we see an end to the rollout of the vaccination,” she said.

“Otherwise, kung mag-sige lang ta og extend og extend sa atong deadline, di gyud na mahuman ang pag-target sa (if we keep on extending our deadline, we won’t be able to achieve the) herd immunity,” she added.

During a meeting with the Covid-19 Task Force on Monday, November 8, the mayor reminded the Vaccination Cluster to increase its daily target vaccinees from 15,000 to 16,695 doses per day.
