FOLLOWING the murder of public school teacher June Leo Pañares, public schools in the City of Naga will be required to install at least two closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to bolster security.
The CCTV cameras will be installed at the entrance and inside school premises.
Dr. Rosalie Pasaol, Department of Education City of Naga Schools Division superintendent, told SunStar Cebu she met with the city’s school heads on Monday, October 17, 2022, where they decided to allocate funds for this purpose.
However, she admitted that smaller schools with a maintenance and other operating expenses of less than P10,000 might not be able to afford it.
She said she will propose to the City Government of Naga, through its Local School Board, to shoulder the purchase for smaller schools, especially those located in mountain barangays.
Pasaol said Mayor Valdemar Chiong met with the city’s 28 barangay captains to help secure public schools in their jurisdiction.
She said the mayor also ordered watchmen, or personnel that the City hired to secure public schools, to work harder.
She said each public school has at least two watchmen to watch over students and faculty members.
She said professional security guards were too expensive. (JKV, PJB)
