TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas credited his frontliners for making his city to be the first local government unit (LGU) in Cebu Province to be deescalated to Alert Level 1.
Gullas honored the city’s frontliners in a statement related to the 80th commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
The city has been placed under Alert Level 1 starting Saturday, April 9, until April 15.
Gullas said the frontliners and the cooperation of his constituents for submitting themselves to vaccination played a great role in putting the city under a more relaxed quarantine status.
“When the Covid-19 pandemic began, our frontliners — medical and non-medical — fought for us to keep us safe. And dako gyud nakong garbo nga ang ilang pagsakripisyo, na recognize gyud sa national government (And it is my great honor that their sacrifices were recognized by the national government),” Gullas said.
Gullas said as of Friday, April 8, 80 percent of the combined population of adults and senior citizens in the city have already been innoculated against the coronarivus disease (Covid-19), which is more than the 68 percent target required by the national government for an LGU to be placed under the Alert Level 1 status. Gullas credited the efforts of frontliners and vaccinators for their success in the city’s vaccination program.
“Today I believe we must give recognition to the heroes of the past. But we also have to give recognition of the heroes of the present. Today we should also commemorate the men and women who continue to fight to keep us safe, whether from internal and external threats,” Gullas added.
“I would also like to thank all Talisaynons for cooperating with us in our fight against Covid-19 by voluntarily submitting themselves to vaccination. Dili ni mahimong posible ang atong kagawasan kon wala mo nikugi nga mo-participate sa atong vaccination program (This could not have been possible if not for your participation in the vaccination program),” the mayor added.
Talisay is the fourth city in Metro Cebu to be placed under Alert Level 1, after Cebu City on March 16, and the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu on April 1.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama led local officials in a wreath-laying activity during the Araw ng Kagitingan
commemoration at Plaza Independencia.
Around 800 people attended the program organized by the Cebu City Government and the Philippine Veterans Association. (REV, GDC / TPT)
